A dental implant is made of a biocompatible titanium post. So what does that mean? The titanium post doesn't harm living tissue. Dr. Ahmed inserts the post into the gap left by the missing tooth root. The post reinforces the jawbone when it fuses to it and supports other dental restorations, like dentures and bridges.

Attached to the titanium post is a screw or connector that latches onto a porcelain crown. This part of the procedure happens later, about 3-6 months after. The permanent crown is custom-made and looks just like the rest of your teeth for a new and improved smile.

How to Care for Dental Implants

Dental implants have a 95% success rate compared to other restorations and although they can't sustain cavities, the gum tissue surrounding them can be infected. This leads to gum disease, neighboring teeth becoming infected, and perhaps tooth loss.

Proper care entails:

Brush twice a day at the very minimum using a soft-bristled toothbrush
Floss at least once before bed to remove hard-to-reach areas
Use toothpaste and mouthwash containing fluoride to prevent tooth decay

Who's a good candidate?
